On Thursday, February 23rd, the Paulding Panthers hosted the Edgerton Bulldogs for a home game. For the Panthers, this was a special night. They chose this night to recognize the senior pep band members and seniors on their basketball team. This is oftentimes an emotional night for many basketball players, as it is the last home game that they will play for their school. Either way, the Panther boys pressed on to play their best in their final home game. Paulding’s record so far this season is 6-14, which isn’t very good, but doesn’t mean that they still can’t pull off a win.
The first quarter was very evident that this game would not go in Paulding’s favor. The Panthers were only able to score 1 point, foul shot by Kameron Echols. The Bulldogs, on the other hand, were able to add 10 points to the board. In the second quarter, Paulding stepped up some and scored 10 points, however, they were still outscored by Edgerton who scored 15. The score at half-time was 25-11, with Edgerton holding a strong lead.
Coming back from the half time break, the Panthers found their second wind and scored 11 points. Their defense upped its game as well and only allowed the Bulldogs to score 8 points. Paulding began to play strong into the fourth quarter. They managed to add 18 points. However, Edgerton added 17-points to the board. The final score of the game was 50-40, with Edgerton taking the win home.
Score by the Quarter:
Paulding – 1 10 11 18=40
Edgerton – 10 15 8 17=50
A few of the top scorers for Paulding were Ethan Rhonehouse with 15, Preston Ingol with 13, Kameron Echols with 4.
It is unfortunate that the Paulding Seniors could not have a win to celebrate their final home game. However, they should still be proud for the years that they have dedicated to their school, their sport, and themselves. Congratulations!
