On the final home game of the 2016-17 season for the Wayne Trace Raiders, the boys took on the Ottoville Big Green. Not only is this game special for the seniors on the team, this game is particularly special to a specific senior. This is Ethan Linder’s 100th game in a Raider uniform, becoming the first Wayne Trace boys or girls basketball player to play in 100 games for their career which is a difficult feat for any player to claim. From Wayne Trace’s record (19-2), it is pretty clear that they would be claiming the victory, especially compared to Ottoville’s record (8-11).
Right off the bat, Wayne Trace took control of the ball; however, not total control of the game. After some intense back and forth, it was pretty clear that this game wasn’t going to have a clear winner until one of the teams finally caved. The first quarter ended with both the Raiders and the Big green stuck at a stale mate of 14-14. The second was a completely different game. Wayne Trace upped their game over 200%, adding 32 points to the board. This completely blew Ottoville’s scores during the second quarter (11) away. The score at half time was 46-25.
After coming back from the half, it was apparent that Wayne Trace had slowed its gameplay down. The Big Green, though, did not, and outscored the Raiders in the third quarter – Ottoville scored 16, while Wayne Trace only added 11. The fourth quarter went similarly with the Big Green adding 18 and the Raiders only adding 10. However, Wayne Trace had created such a wide margin in the 2nd quarter, that even with Ottoville adding more points to the board, it was impossible for the Big Green to catch up. The final score of the game was 67-59. The Wayne Trace Raiders defended their home court and were victorious.
Score by the Quarter:
Wayne Trace – 14 32 11 10=67
Ottoville – 14 11 16 18=59
A few of the top scorers for Wayne Trace included: Ethan Linder with 14, Brady Stabler with 14, Eli Sinn with 12, and Jake Kuhn with 8.
A few of the top scorers for Ottoville included: Ryan Bendele with 27, Logan Kemper with 14, Eric Von Sossan with 8, and Keagan Leis with 4.
This victory gave Wayne Trace 20 wins on the season, the 13th time in school history that the Raider boys have won 20 games in a season. Congratulations to the Wayne Trace Raiders for an amazing game and an amazing season so far. The seniors should be proud for the years that they have dedicated to their school, their sport, and themselves. Congratulations!
