Introduction: Today we start a new series of studies on the prophecies of Christ and the first series will be about Christ and His flesh and blood body. But first we must understand what the word prophecy means. The meaning of the word prophecy is inspired foretelling of events.
A. Characteristics of prophecy:
1. Is prophecy given by God? Isaiah 41:22-23 Zechariah 1:6;
2. Are prophecies centered in Christ? Luke 24:26-27, 44
3. Are prophecies inspired by the Spirit? 2nd Peter 1:21
4. Is prophecy of one’s own interpretation? 2nd Peter 1:20
5. Is prophecy always relevant? Revelation 22:10, Revelation 1:3, Daniel 8:26.
6. Can prophecy be changed by man? Revelation 22:18-19
B. True, prophecy based on:
1. Is true prophecy based on inspiration? Micah 3:8 Isaiah 58:1
2. Is foreknowledge based on truth? Isaiah 42:9
C. Can prophecy be false, based on scripture?
1. Is false prophecy a nonfulfillment? Jeremiah 28:1-17;
2. Can a peaceful message be false? Jeremiah 23:17-22;
3. Can false apostasy be from God? Deuteronomy 13:1-5
4. Can false prophecy be lying? Jeremiah23:25-27
D. The fulfillment of prophecy:
1. Can prophesy be unconditional? Ezekiel 12:25-28
2. Can prophesy sometimes be conditional? Jonah 3:1-10;
3. Can prophecy be dated? Daniel 9:24-27;
4. Can prophecy be non-literal? Matthew 17:10-12.
5. Was prophecy unrecognized by Jews? Acts 13:27-29
6. Does prophecy need interpretation? Luke 24:25-27;
7. Is prophecy often referred to? Matthew 1:22-23.
Loved ones, this is the first of a series of lessons or studies that will be done in the coming weeks and prayerfully and hopefully this will help in your study. Also you will need to read the scripture verses that is given, for the answer is there. I will not be putting the answers at the end of the studies.
