On May 20th, the Antwerp Conservation Club held its first 22 Pistol shoot of 2017. Seven shooters took the chance on the forecasted rain holding off. They were not disappointed.
Seven challenging stages were set up to test their skills and a Pistol Poker game was played. The stages consisted of water balloons, water filled pop cans, 6” round polymer targets, 6” round steel targets, Bowling pins, paper silhouettes and a Texas Star.
The water balloons were only 3 inches in diameter and the pop cans were filled with water. These were used in two stages and shot from 7 to 12 yards. When they are hit, they explode. It is exciting to see them blow up. The 6 inch round polymer targets are set up in a row of five. When each plate is hit, it falls over. The bowling pins where cut in two at the base of the neck and set up at 10 yards away as a group of 6 pins. The challenge was to knock off the top without hitting the base of the pins. The three silhouette targets were set at 3yds, 15yds and 20 yds. The targets were shot two times each from three different positions using a VTAC Board. The idea is to make the shooter move positions and reacquire a different target and hit the center of the target. The 6 inch round steel target are hung by chains. When these are hit, they ring and swing. The Texas Star is another new addition to the 22lr caliber events at the ACC for 2017. It has five 6 inch round plates mounted to arms. Each arm is connected to a center hub. As each plate is knocked off, the others start to rotate in a circle. It is a fun challenge to knock off all five plates as they are moving around.
The next 22 Rifle Silhouette shoot is June 3rd. The next 22 Pistol shoot is June 17th.
