The Payne Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a 5-K to raise funds for Dustin Shuherk’s medical expenses. It will be held at the Payne School ball fields on Saturday, July 29 at 8:00 AM. Age group medals and door prizes will be awarded. Walkers, kids, and dogs are welcome. A little about Dustin:
On September 23rd, 2016 Dustin underwent surgery to remove a large tumor within his colon. A week later it was confirmed that he had stage III colon cancer. He has since undergone bi-weekly chemotherapy treatments. On April 21, 2017, Dustin was officially done with his chemo treatments, and on May 17, 2017, he was put into remission! We are now in the “survivor” period of cancer which means he will undergo routine scans for the next five years to ensure that if there is a recurrence we catch it. Now that his treatment is over our family is burdened with medical debt along with other living costs that have simultaneously caught up to us. For much of his treatment Dustin was too sick to work. However, we are just very grateful and happy that Dustin is in remission and gets to enjoy his life with our two year old, Sophie! She loves her daddy and is very happy he is done wearing his chemo bag – or as she called it “the boo-boo bag.” We appreciate everyone that prayed, and encourage Dustin through his fight. We couldn’t have done it without you!
