The City of New Haven and New Haven/Adams Township Parks Department will hold a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and host an Open House on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 to dedicate the new Community Center in New Haven. The ribbon cutting ceremony will begin at 3:15 p.m. followed by facility tours and refreshments for the public.
Mayor Terry McDonald said, “For over 25 years, the Park Board has studied and investigated the need for such a community center; and the studies have demonstrated that the residents desire a facility that will provide for comprehensive and diversified programming all year. A larger building such a Community Center would open opportunities for programming across all age demographics.” McDonald also said, “A larger facility will also add to content equity, in other words, having a little something for everyone, and that’s exactly what this facility offers.”
The previous owners of the site partnered with the New Haven/Adams Township Parks Department by donating a substantial portion of the value of the property. Property owners, Bill Appenzeller, Paul Beerman, Carl Miskotten and Chris Walsh said in a joint statement, “We are very thankful to be part of making a 30 year community project into a reality. We know the location will be perfect for a community center with easy access to major roads and city transit available. We are happy to leave the facility in community hands knowing the residents will enjoy it for years to come.”
“New Haven/Adams Township Parks Director Mike Clendenen stated, “This is a great day in New Haven. In order to expand the Parks Department program, it was necessary to offer a Community Center that allows us to offer a variety of programs and amenities to the public.” Clendenen added, “This Community Center has something for everyone.” By housing this type of facility, it will allow services to expand for senior citizens, fitness, youth programs, special events and much more.”
The 16,000 sq. ft. community center features park offices, a senior room, a classroom, a conference room, a gathering area, 3,000 sq. ft. fitness area and 2,000 sq. ft. aerobics room.
