The 2017 high school volleyball season opened on Saturday with a battle of Paulding County rivals hooking up in Antwerp as Paulding made the trip to the northwest corner of the county.
When the ball hit the floor for the final time of the night, it was the host Lady Archers wrapping up a 25-20, 25-10, 22-25 and 25-20 victory over the Panthers.
Rachel Williamson led the Archers with 23 kills and seven blocks while finishing the night a perfect 15 of 15 serving. Kaitlyn Hamman added seven kills and two blocks for Antwerp while also posting a 17 of 17 night from the service line.
Chloe Franklin chipped in a dozen digs, three kills and 30 assists and Karsyn Brumett recorded seven digs and two aces along with a 21 of 21 serving night.
Alyssa Fuller (ten digs, 14-14 serving), Madison Boesch (two assists) and Kendall Billman (eight digs) also helped to lead the Lady Archers to the victory.
For the Lady Panthers, Sadie Estle recorded ten kills and Audrey Manz dished off 19 assists. Cassidy Posey chipped in 14 kills for the maroon and white with Macy Iler recording nine kills and Megan Tope added 17 digs. Caitlyn Myers was 18 of 19 serving for Paulding.
In the junior varsity match, Paulding opened the season with the victory as the Panthers recorded a straight set 25-10, 25-16 win.
