HICKSVILLE – It was Homecoming Night in Hicksville Friday night and the hometown Aces wasted no time getting their crowd into the game.
Hicksville scored 21 points in the first quarter and the Aces never looked back from there as they cruised to a 47-7 victory over visiting Antwerp.
Jake Greer threw for 193 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Aces, who improve to 6-2 overall on the season and 5-0 in the Green Meadows Conference.
Hicksville will now try to clinch its first league championship since 2011 as the Aces visit Wayne Trace on Friday. An Aces victory gives Hicksville an outright championship but a Raider win sends the two squads into week ten tied in first place.
Payton Tunis had six receptions for the Aces totaling 77 yards and a touchdown.
Parker Thiel, Logan Sanderson, Mason Commisso and Nathan Arend all had touchdown receptions for Hicksville. Arend also ran 36 yards for a score and Landon Turnbull added a one-yard plunge for a touchdown.
Blake Schuette picked up the lone score for Antwerp, culminating an Archer drive with a five-yard scamper for a touchdown.
Hicksville led 21-0 after one quarter and the Aces expanded the advantage to 34-0 at halftime. The Aces held a 41-0 lead entering the final period.
Antwerp falls to 1-7 overall and 0-5 in the league with the loss.
The Archers will return to action on Friday when Antwerp hosts Tinora (4-4, 3-2) in the final game of the season at Archer Field.
