The Lady Raiders hosted the Woodlan Warriors on Thursday, December 28. The game between state-line rivals started by Wayne Trace grabbing the tip-off and taking a strong early lead. The first quarter enabled the Raiders to more than double the score of Woodlan. The girls basketball team struggled when it finished, 21-9. Both teams ended up with 3 3-point field goals by the end of the game. Those were by Brooke Sinn (2) and Claire Sinn for the home team and Taya Kitzmiller and Hanna Albertson (2).
One thing there is to say is that Woodlan is consistent. The girls scored 9 points in each of 3 of the 4 quarters. Woodlan picked up their defense, moving to a full court press and was able to bring down the home team scoring to only 10 points in the 2nd period, and the half finished at 31-18. Both teams were very proficient at stealing the ball. The Raiders played a tight game on this evening and stuck to the Warriors like bees on honey.
After half time, the home team picked up their scoring once again and there was Claire Sinn sinking buckets one after the other. She had an excellent night along with Kaylee Shepherd. Woodlan could not gain a foothold against the home team at all in the second half, but they were able to limit the scoring in the fourth quarter of the Raiders. The stat sheet only had a little bit of a difference, but it added up to be quite a bit by the time the buzzer finished. Assists were the biggest difference and Wayne Trace had 18 to Woodlan’s 1.
The game finished 58-34 in the favor of Wayne Trace.
