Head Start finally gets a building to call their own! In Hicksville, Ohio there is a restaurant that recently opened named Casa Grande that is across from Sailors gas station. Behind the restaurant, and part of the same building, is the location for the new facility housing Hicksville Head Start! The address is 520 West High Street.
The grand opening event took place on Wednesday, January 3 at 1:00 p.m. There was cake, drinks and lots of excitement to welcome the families to the new location.
Janet Yaros, Director of Head Start said they have 10 locations altogether throughout Northwest Ohio counties, including: Williams, Defiance, Fulton, Henry, and Paulding Counties. Jacque Gonzales manages both the Paulding and the Hicksville location. Right now there are 17 children from low income families that have great opportunities here. Deb Gerken is the Executive Director of Northwest Ohio Community Action Commission.
Long has it been that the Head Start program has been in Hicksville, but it has been in various churches, the most recent is Hicksville Mennonite Church on Arthur St., that being five years.
Justin Kuhn is the owner of the building, purchased two years ago, and he said the daycare facility is 2500 square foot. He said future plans, with commissioner approval, would be to integrate the Senior Center so young people and old folks can have a new experience with each other.
