Elvene Marie Dobbelaere

OAKWOOD, OHIO

Elvene Marie Dobbelaere, 91, of Oakwood passed away Thursday, January 25, 2018 at the Gardens of Paulding.

She was born September 1, 1926 to Elva and Ethel (Schooley) Keck in Paulding, Ohio.  She was a 1944 graduate of Latty High School. On April 22, 1946 she married Gerard Dobbelaere at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Junction.

Fondly known as Shorty or Nan, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She enjoyed being with family, was an excellent cook and was hostess to countless family and friends gatherings.. She also loved to play cards and to do the daily crossword puzzle until her health began to fail. Gerard and Elvene were fortunate to travel often and always journeyed with friends or family. They spent many enjoyable winters at their home in Haines City, Florida before he passed away December 24, 2007. For the past five and a half years she became a part of the Gardens of Paulding family where she continued to bring joy to those around her.

She is survived by her children, Bob and Sue Brown and David “Bud” and Kris (Kohart) Dobbelaere all of Oakwood; four grandchildren, Deedi (Mike) Miller, Cory Dobbelaere both of Oakwood, Derric (Dee) Brown of Marysville, and Darsi (Mark) Everson of Fishers, IN; seven great-grandchildren, Ellie, Estee, and Aiden Miller, Noah and Leah Brown, and Blake and Max Everson; brothers-in-law, Morris Dobbelaere, Bob Dobbelaere, and Henry Dobbelaere; and a sister-in-law, Doris Richman.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Heidi Dobbelaere; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Barb Finnegan; and a brother, Max Keck.

She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Junction Church until its closure and was currently registered at St. John the Baptist Church in Continental.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 29, 2018 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Oakwood with Fr. Mark Hoying officiating. Internment will follow in Sherman Cemetery, Oakwood. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday and one hour prior to the service on Monday all at the funeral home..
