Lady Panthers roll past Ada
ADA – Paulding held a slim lead after 1 quarter and broke the contest open from there in rolling to a 68-41 victory over Ada in Northwest Conference girls basketball action Thursday night.
The Lady Panthers were on top 15-13 after 1 quarter before opening the game up in the second stanza.
Paulding scored 18 points in the second period compared to Ada’s 9, taking a 33-22 halftime advantage. The Lady Panthers then expanded the margin to 53-33 at the end of 3 quarters.
Brianna Townley had 16 points to top all scorers for the Panthers with Audrey Manz chipping in 15 and Sadie Estle adding 11.
Jaylynn Parrett (6), Cassidy Posey (6), Kaylen Hale (5), Sydney McCullough (5), Leigha Egnor (2) and Asia Arellano (2) also scored for the maroon and white.
Ada was led by Maddie Gossard, who scored 19 points, while Anney Archer chipped in 14.
Antwerp HS Wrestling Results
The Antwerp wrestling team recently was tested in the Wapakoneta Invitational on Saturday January 27, 2018. All 3 Archer wrestlers were able to place in the top 6 of their respective weight classes. Finishing 6th on the day with 2 pins and placing in a tournament for the first time this season was junior Tanner Wentland at 138 lbs. Also finishing the day with 2 pins was sophomore Randal Mills, who earned a 3rd place finish at 113 lbs. Junior Aidan McAlexander also earned a 3rd place finish at 106 pounds while gaining 3 pins in the process. The Archers will compete next at the GMC tournament on Saturday, February 3. Robbins’ late basket lifts Warriors past Railroaders
With the game tied at 61-61, Woodlan’s Micah Robbins gave his team a 2-point 63-61 victory over visiting Garrett with a basket late in the fourth quarter Tuesday night at Woodlan High School.
The Railroaders jumped in front 13-8 after 1 quarter and expanded the lead to 34-21 at the midway point of the contest.
However, the Warriors rallied in the third quarter with 24 points compared to Garrett’s 15 as Woodlan trimmed the deficit to 49-45 entering the final stanza.
Woodlan then outscored Garrett 18-12 in the fourth quarter for the victory, thanks to Mendenhall’s jumper in the final seconds.
Aaron Hahn topped all scorers in the game with 18 points for the Warriors while Mitch Mendenhall chipped in 15. Micah Robbins and Ah’Lan Howard added 13 markers apiece for Woodlan as the Warriors put 4 players in double figures.
Matt Elias (3) and Trevor Wiedenhoeft (1) picked up the remaining Warrior points in the contest.
Garrett was paced by Micah Malcolm with 17 points and Dillon McCann chipped in 15 markers.
Kobe Lucarelli chipped in 10 for the Railroaders followed by Bryce Wilson (7), Sam Farney (6) and Dane Johnson (6).
Lady Raiders Chalk Up Win
On Tuesday, January 23 the Lady Raiders took on Delphos Jefferson at home and defeated the Wildcats in a 57-49 win. The Raiders took an early lead in the first period, scoring an incredible 28 points with the help of Claire Sinn and Kaylee Shepherd.
These girls from Wayne Trace were on top of their game, but let it slip in the 2nd period, going from 28 in the first to 5. The half ended much closer 33-28.
In the third quarter, the Lady Raiders nearly lost their lead as the Wildcats clawed their way back and added more to their side 41-40. The heat was on for the Lady Raiders and they managed to turn the game around with coach Bethany DeJarnett at the helm. The girls were able to get back in the game with steals and baskets by Gracie Guadakunst. Turnovers were about the same for the teams, but it was the rebounds in the fourth quarter that really helped the home team take the game.

Antwerp 8th grade Boys basketball results
The Antwerp 8th grade boys basketball team traveled down to Haviland, Ohio to take on the Raiders in The Pit. There was a heck of a Green Meadows Conference battle set to tip off around 6:00 p.m. on this 23rd day of January.
Antwerp prevailed in the contest 45-26.
“Wayne Trace gave my boys all they wanted during that 24 minute cage fight. Don’t let the final score fool ya, this was a good basketball game,” said Coach Landers.
Leading the Archers in scoring were Jagger Landers with 17 points, Hunter Sproles-10, Luke Krouse-8, Gaige McMichael-4 and Tucker Franklin & Luke McDorman with a three ball each.
On January 25, 2018, the Antwerp Jr High Boys traveled to Paulding to face the Panthers for county bragging rights. In the 8th grade contest the Archers took off right from the jump ball and ended the 1st quarter up 17-3. The momentum continued for Antwerp through the next three quarters for a 44-15 victory.
Scoring for the Archers were Jagger Landers with 13 points, Kaden Phares and Hunter Sproles with 8 each, Luke Krouse scored 7, Luke McDorman-3, Tucker Franklin & Mason Steel with 2 points each and Gaige McMichael with 1 free throw.
The Archers will travel all the way to Rockford, Ohio to battle the Parkway Panthers January 30th at 5:00 p.m.
Antwerp Wrestling Club results
The Antwerp wrestling club competed in the Mad Dog tournament in Defiance on Saturday, January 27, 2018. All 9 Archer wrestlers placed in the top 4 of their respective weight classes. Finishing 4th on the day in the first tournament of his young career was Cy Zuber. Earning 3rd place finishes on the day were Carsyn Baer, Dorian Bennett, and Kalel Mead. Placing 2nd for the tournament were Liam Bryant, Nico Moreno, Riley Smith, Griffin Kosch, and Ethan Thomas Van-Kirk. Along with Cy Zuber, it was also the first ever tournament for Dorian Bennett and Liam Bryant. Congratulations to all the young Archers for the accomplishments. We wish you luck as you get underway in your season. GO ARCHERS!!
Archers post sixth win in rout of NC
ANTWERP – Antwerp recorded its sixth victory of the season Saturday night as the Archers doubled up North Central 70-35 in boys basketball action.
Antwerp dominated the game in all areas, controlling the boards 34-19 on the evening while committing only 10 turnovers compared to the Eagles’ 19.
The Archers also shot 45% from the field (26 of 58) and 67% at the free throw line (8 of 12) while North Central hit 12 of 34 shots from the field (35%) and 8 of 17 foul shots (47%).
Jake Ryan led the way for the blue and white with 17 points while Luke Brewer chipped in 13 markers. Ty Rebber and Jayvin Landers also reached twin digits for Antwerp with a dozen points each.
Cole Seslar (8), Blake Schuette (3), Austin Lichty (3) and Ashton Barnhouse (2) also scored for Antwerp.
The Archers led 14-6 after 1 quarter before expanding the lead to 32-19 at the half. Antwerp then put the game and pushed the margin to 50-25 at the end of 3 periods.
Bulldogs send seven to regionals; Warriors advance two
NEW HAVEN – Both New Haven and Woodlan took part in the IHSAA wrestling sectional at New Haven High School on Saturday with the Bulldogs finishing second as a team while the Warriors were tenth.
Homestead took home the team title with 199-1/2, nipping second place New Haven’s 198.
Leo was third at 189 followed by Snider (181), South Side (101), Wayne (92), Bishop Luers (81-1/2), North Side (67), Heritage (60) and Woodlan (44).
Bulldog senior Konner Bender took the individual championship at 152 to punch his ticket to the regional tournament. Senior Jonyvan Johnson also grabbed a title at 182 in advancing to the regional, as did senior Jaxson Savieo who won the 195 weight class.
Other advancers for the Bulldogs were freshman Cameron Mason (second, 113), junior Jeff Rondot (third, 120), freshman Elijah Chacon (third, 132) and junior Caleb Salinas (fourth, 285).
Woodlan wrestlers moving on to the regional include freshman David Rogers-Potter (fourth, 120) and sophomore Tristen Martz (third, 170).
Early Lead Gives WT Victory over Warriors
The game from December that was postponed took place on January 27 at the Strautman Gymnasium. The Raiders jumped in early and strong against the Warriors boys basketball team. The lead carried them through the rest of the game to claim victory over the home team even though the other three quarters, they did not have the top points earned.
The first period was strong with Eli Sinn and Nate Gerber posting strong baskets. The three pointers were good for Gerber, who totaled 14 that afternoon. The guests added 23 points while the home team only posted 9 in the first period.
On the Woodlan side of the court it was a struggle to get past the Raider defense. It wasn’t until the second quarter that Woodlan was able to get the Wayne Trace offense under control. Both teams then were at 10, completing the half at 19-33
Woodlan boys came back from the half with one thing on their mind: outscore the Raiders. And they did! The small lead gave them hope at 17-14 game them hope that they could recover from the deficit accumulated from the first period. Woodlan’s Micah Robbins plunked in 3 3-point baskets for his points for the night, but it was Aaron Hahn that really picked up in the second half of the game. Hahn was in for points in every category. He had 4 free throws, 1 3-point basket and 6 2-point field goals. Altogether, he was the top scorer of the game with 19 points.
Ah’lan Howard also brightened up the court when he posted 14 points for the night. Aidan Bayman and Mitch Mendenhall both had 8. Even though Woodlan gained 4 points over the Raiders in the fourth, it was still a loss for them at 58-65.
Third quarter drought costly for Archers
DEFIANCE – Antwerp did exactly what it wanted to do in the first half of Thursday’s Green Meadows Conference girls basketball contest at Tinora.
The Lady Archers held an 18-11 lead at the break but a third quarter scoring drought that saw Antwerp only score 1 point in the period proved costly as the Rams rallied for a 33-28 victory.
The blue and white was on top 11-3 at the end of one period and held the 7 point margin at the break.
However, Tinora outscored the Archers 9-1 in the third quarter to rally for a 20-19 advantage entering the final stanza. The Rams then picked up 13 more points in the fourth quarter compared to 9 for the Archers to seal the victory.
Sarah Harris topped the green and white with 10 points while Amber Schliesser chipped in 9. Tristin Ackerman posted 8 followed by Sydney Grieser (4), Madison Brown (1) and Sarah Andrews (1).
Antwerp was paced by Rachel Williamson with 9 markers and Karsyn Brumett recorded 7.
Hope Smith (3), Tiera Gomez (3), Heather Oberlin (2), Ashley Miller (2) and Chelsea Johanns (2) also scored for the blue and white.
Eagles pull away from Bulldogs
NEW HAVEN – Visiting Columbia City limited New Haven to single digits in points in each of the first 2 quarters and cruised to a 56-29 win over the Bulldogs last week in girls basketball action.
Columbia City led 18-7 after 1 quarter and widened the margin to 31-9 at the midway point of the contest. The Lady Eagles posted a 43-19 advantage entering the final quarter.
Sukura Stubbs paced the Lady Bulldogs with 10 points with Sonecia Nard chipping in 8 markers.
Joanna Noorthoek (4), Raeshawn Norfleet (3), Savannah Weekly (3) and Kelli Ross (2) rounded out the New Haven scorers. The Bulldogs fall to 2-20 on the season.
Columbia City was led by Carly Mabie with 13 points with Olivia Shearer adding 13 markers. Grace Schrader and Gabby Fry chipped in 8 and 6 points, respectively, for the Lady Eagles.
Hunter Alles (5), Skye Roberts (5) and Madison Woodward all had 5 points for Columbia City, which improved to 9-15 for the year.
Lady Raiders Defeat Holgate for GMC Win
The Lady Raiders travelled to Holgate on Thursday, January 25 for a Green Meadows Conference match with the Holgate Tigers. The Lady Tigers had been one of the top teams in the conference, along with the Raiders, but this night put the home team a notch below after Wayne Trace won 54-48. Hicksville is rated at 1st, but it’s hard to tell since they have played two more games than Wayne Trace.
The girls from both teams did quite well on this night. It was the first quarter that set the stage for the Raider victory when Claire Sinn nailed 22 points for the night with 3 steals to her credit. Kaylee Shepherd was quite successful at grabbing the ball for the defensive rebound title for the guest team. She had 4. The Lady Tigers had more height, and therefore, made it easier to get the rebounds. Overall, they had more on both offense and defense 27-26 rebounds. The first period gave a 10 point head start to the Raiders at 17-7
The second period proved nearly even when Holgate caught on to the Raider game and slowed their game down. The half finished 32-24.
Periods 2,3&4 all went to Holgate with one or two point leads. Throughout the game, the Raiders were still able to hold on to that lead gathered in the first quarter, which was good for them with the Tigers taking the next 3.

Raiders Slam Tigers in GMC match-up
On Friday, January 26th, the Wayne Trace Raiders met up with the Holgate Tigers on the court for some high school boys basketball at The Palace. The Raiders were on fire from the first jump ball posting double digits in both the 1st and 2nd quarters compared with the Tigers, 6 and 0, respectively. Raiders reigned it in just a bit in the 2nd half of the game, only pulling in 12 points in the 3rd and 8 in the 4th. The Tigers attempted to make a comeback, but just couldn’t pull it off, ending the game with a home win, 54-21.

Archers cruise past Pirates
Rachel Williamson scored 16 points while teammates Heather Oberlin and Hope Smith added 13 each to lead the Antwerp Lady Archers to a 55-22 victory over visiting Continental last week.
The Archers grabbed a 16-2 advantage after eight minutes of action and never looked back.
Antwerp picked up 18 second quarter points while limiting the Pirates to 10 as the local squad widened the margin to 34-12 at the intermission.
Quarter number three saw the Archers score 7 of the 10 points in the period, giving Antwerp a 41-15 lead entering the fourth quarter.
Karsyn Brumett chipped in 9 for the blue and white while Amanda Roberts and Tiera Gomez had 2 points apiece.
Continental was led by Amber Logan with 13 points while Alex Hoeffel chipped in 6 markers. Addyson Armey (2) and Prowant (1) scored the other Pirate markers.
Lady Rams hold off Panthers for victory
Paulding and Tinora went back and forth in non-league girls basketball action Tuesday night with the two teams standing tied at 42-42 at the end of three periods.
The host Rams, though, won the battle in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Panthers 19-15 to pick up a hard fought 61-57 victory.
In the first quarter, each squad totaled a dozen points before Tinora grabbed the lead in the second stanza.
The Lady Rams added 17 second quarter points while limiting the Panthers to 11 as Tinora took a 29-23 halftime lead.
Paulding, though, rallied in the third period by scoring 19 points compared to Tinora’s 13 to knot the contest at 42-42 entering the final 8 minutes.
Sarah Harris hit 5 3-pointers and totaled 15 points to lead the Lady Rams with Amber Schliesser and Sydney Grieser bucketed a dozen each. Madison Brown also reached double digits for Tinora with 10 markers.
Sarah Andrews (7), Taylor Brown (2), Aaliyah Hurtt (2) and Grayce Burkholder (1) also scored for the Rams.
Paulding was paced by Brianna Townley with 18 points while Audrey Manz and Cassidy Posey chipped in 16 apiece for the maroon and white.
Other Lady Panthers finding the scoring column were Jaylyn Parrett (5) and Sydney McCullough (2).
8th Grade Archers Shoot Bulldogs
On January 16, the Antwerp 8th grade boys took the floor at home against the Edgerton Bulldogs. The Archers take pride in protecting their home court, and on this chilly evening that is just what they did. Antwerp played four tough quarters to defeat the Bulldogs 42-18.
Scoring for Antwerp were Luke Krouse with 15, Jagger Landers-10, Kaden Recker-7, Tucker Franklin-4, Mason Steel-3, Hunter Sproles-2 and Gaige McMichael rounded out the scoring column with 1 free throw.
