FORT WAYNE – Woodlan saw its girls basketball season come to a close last week as the Lady Warriors battled with highly touted Angola in the first half but the Hornets pulled away for a 59-29 win in sectional play.
The Lady Hornets led 15-12 after eight minutes of action and Woodlan was still within 27-20 at the midway point of the contest.
However, Angola responded by outscoring the Warriors 13-4 in the third quarter to open up a 40-24 lead entering the final stanza.
Quarter number four saw the Lady Hornets put up 19 more points compared to Woodlan’s five in wrapping up the 59-29 victory.
Addison Bayman paced the Lady Warriors with 17 points while Gabby Joyce chipped in five markers. Taya Kitzmiller, Hanna Albertson and Lexia Holmes picked up two points each and Ella Smith had one.
It was the final game in a Woodlan uniform for Warrior senior K.C. McGettigan as well.
Coach Gary Cobb says, “These girls played their hearts out this night. This was the hardest they played. They just an out of gas! I was sure proud of them and believe we will have a fantastic team next year!”
Hanna Knoll topped the Lady Hornets with 21 points and Ali Cranson chipped in ten.
Other scorers for Angola were Ally Lorntz (eight), Regan Peppler (eight), Reace Peppler (four), Sarah Brandt (four), Brea Worman (two) and Abby Stoy (two).
