Middle school students in Mrs. Jassmine Reyes’s language arts classroom at Antwerp Local School now have flexible seating options when they are working independently. Since research shows that students read and write best when they are comfortable, Reyes decided to try flexible seating options for her classroom, including bean bags, couches, high and low tables, mats, stools, and more. Reyes says, “Middle school students have a lot of energy and need to move around when reading and writing. Flexible seating options give my students choice and allow them to take ownership over their learning process.” Reyes was able to purchase the flexible seating through a Paulding Putnam Electric Cooperative Trust grant.
