Six wrestlers from Wayne Trace competed at the OAC Junior High Districts held at Oregon Clay High School Sunday, February 18th. Three of the six boys secured a place on the podium and earned their ticket to state.
Graiden Troth, Samuel Moore and Jared Pierce, all first time wrestlers at the district level, were able to each secure a win.
Jarrett Hornish, wrestling 90lbs., seeded first, had a pin the first round defeating Vincent Yant(SYWR) in 2:51. Championship Round 2, Hornish has another pin in 3:39 over Wyat Fryman(AWC). Semi Finals Hornish wins yet again with a major decision 9-0, over Marcus Medina(ECWC). However, in the finals match, Hornish falls short to Sam Cartella(216WC), losing by decision 6-2. Hornish placed 2nd, his third time placing at JH Districts.
Hunter Long, wrestling 114lbs., seeded first , received a Bye in the first round. In the second round of competition Long wins with a pin over Devin Coon(OTWC) in 2:00. Quarterfinals Long pins again in 2:05 over Caleb Zamora(AWC). In the semifinals, Long defeats Lawson Grime(THWC) with a major decision 18-8. Finally, Long secures his first place district championship with a pin in 1:09 over Jack Sparent(Genoa). This is Long’s second year to win the JH District Championship, his third trip to the JH OAC State tournament.
Ty Tinlin, wrestling 209lbs, seeded second, received a Bye in the first round. In the quarterfinals, Tinlin wins with a pin in 0:45 over Avery Schulte(DSJ). In the semifinals, Tinlin was defeated by pin 3:41 by Tyler Cobb(LEW). Cons. Semifinals, Tinlin rebounds and defeats Evan Hart(WPWC) with a pin 1:27. Tinlin finishes out his day in fourth place, losing to a tough Ethan Green(FREM) 12-5. This is Tinlin’s first time earning his ticket to the OAC JH State tournament.
