NEW HAVEN – Angola came into Tuesday’s boys sectional basketball game with Woodlan as the second ranked team in the state, giving up 37.95 points per game.
The Hornets showed why as Angola outscored Woodlan in every quarter in posting a 55-41 victory at New Haven High School.
Angola led 12-10 at the end of one period, using a 6 point run midway through the opening 8 minutes to take the lead for good. Braydon Hart played a pivotal role in the period, scoring 10 of his game high 17 points for the Hornets to give them the 2-point advantage.
The Hornet then opened the second stanza by scoring 7 of the first 9 points, expanding the lead to 19-12 before settling on a 26-22 advantage at the break.
Angola then extended the margin in the third quarter, outscoring Woodlan 15-9 to widen the gap to 41-31 at the end of 3 periods.
Dyer Ball added a dozen points for the Hornets, who improved to 15-8 with the victory.
Five seniors wrapped up their careers in a Woodlan uniform.
Senior Aaron Hahn led the Warriors with 10 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists in the contest while fellow senior Ah’lan Howard posted 8 markers and an assist. Senior Micah Robbins 7 points, 2 rebounds and a steal. Senior Matt Elias and Lucas Bertsche also concluded their careers in a Warrior uniform.
Other scorers for Woodlan were sophomore Trevor Wiedenhoeft (7), sophomore Mitch Mendenhall (6) and sophomore Aidan Bayman (3).
