The Hicksville Aces snatched a difficult victory from Ayersville in the first game of sectionals that took place this week at Paulding High School 46-41. The game was very close at the beginning. Aces’ Parker Thiel topped the scoring chart for the team with 16 points plus 3. By the end of the first period the game was tied at 11. In the second period, the Pilots made a valiant attempt to steal the game from Hicksville and was quite successful. They ended up making the game 21-28 by half. It wasn’t looking good for the Aces.
Payton Tunis and Thiel both became more active starting in the second half. The whole Aces team picked up the defense and only allowed the Pilots to score one point the entire period. This gave Hicksville the chance they needed to add 9 points and they were able to take the lead by the end of the third.
Keeping up the pressure Hicksville once again outscored the Pilots in the fourth to take the game and send them to the championship match on Friday night.
