ANTWERP – The MAC Gym sixth grade and under winter volleyball league has completed with the young Antwerp Lady Archers taking the 2018 title. Antwerp defeated a fired up Woodlan White squad 25-12; 25-11 in the championship bout.
Woodlan White blazed their way to the championship game through an unlikely path in the six- team tournament. Ranked as the #5 seed in the tournament bracket Woodlan White came from behind on #4 seed Hicksville 16-25; 25-14 and stretched out in the final set 15-11. Woodlan White then took on the #1 seed Woodburn Lutheran School and upset them in three sets as well 25-23; 11-25; 15-13. The victory put them into the championship game with Antwerp.
Antwerp earned the #2 seed and waited on the winner of #6 seed Woodlan Blue and #3 seed Defiance. Following the upset trend of the day, #6 seed Woodlan Blue upset Defiance in three sets 25-17; 13-25; 15-13. Woodlan Blue gave all they had against Antwerp but came out on the short end 25-18; 25-10 to set up the championship game.
