Wayne Trace made the short stint to the Palace on Friday, March 2nd to play in the Sectional Final game to take on the Lincolnview team. The Lancers had won over Continental in the semi-finals previously in the week, also at Paulding.
Previously in the season, Lincolnview had defeated the Raiders when they pounded them, 67-49. The Raiders knew they were going into this game as the underdog and that the game would be very difficult if it could be won. Coach Linder knew the victory could be theirs though!
The game was not easy for the Raiders. Both teams were beating the court to take any advantage they could. Eli Sinn was fighting off an injury from the previous week, but he was still hitting the basket. He scored 22 for the night. The first period was 18-16 and the second was even tighter at 13-13. The half ended at 31-29 with Wayne Trace in the lead.
The Raiders came back from the half, increasing the defensive pressure and held the Lancers to only scoring 14 while Wayne Trace posted 4 more points. Nate Gerber hit a couple 3-point baskets and Josiah Linder added 3. 17 points of the night were from free throws made. The third quarter ended with Wayne Trace still having a small lead at 49-43.
In the fourth quarter, both sides were struggling to get the ball even close to the hoop as the defense was rock solid for the Lancers and the Raiders. Wayne Trace had 9 turnovers for the night and 4 steals.
The game finished with a 60-52 Sectional Championship for Wayne Trace.
