On the last weekend of March 2018, Paulding County witnessed the 40th Anniversary of the 24-hour P.A.S.S. Basketball Marathon in the Payne Elementary gym. The Marathon was born after former Payne resident Jim Hooker’s time at Bowling Green State University when he played in a similar 24-hour basketball charity fundraiser. Now 40 years later, the dream is still alive to help those in need in Paulding County. This year the Marathon had 88 teams play ball for those who can’t. The P.A.S.S. organization is still waiting on the last few invoices to come in, but it is projected this year’s event will raise $5,000.00, the Marathon Committee & the P.A.S.S. society are all unpaid volunteers, so all the money raised will go to those in need from Paulding County.
