The Paulding Soil & Water Conservation District is proud to partner with Paulding Exempted Village Schools on a multi-year tree planting and landscaping project at the Paulding School campus! We were approached by Paulding Elementary Principal Greg Puthoff about planting a windbreak for their playground and the project blossomed from there to include trees all around the school grounds. Trees will not only help to serve as a windbreak but to help beautify the school grounds and provide students with a cool, inviting place to find some shade during their time outdoors! As part of this project, wildflower plots will also be placed in spots too narrow for trees, in an attempt to provide habitat and shelter for our ever-important pollinators!
Trees are currently being cared for by students in the Greenhouse Management Class and Agricultural Education Teacher Staci Miller in the Paulding High School Agricultural Education program at the school greenhouse. Once the tree seedlings grow, the Paulding Soil & Water Conservation District staff, Paulding FFA students, and students from Paulding Schools will place the tree seedlings for the first year around the school according to the project layout. Plans are to work our way around the Paulding campus in future years in an effort to promote and educate students on the importance of trees, the services they provide, and the importance of environmental conservation. Stay tuned as there are many more great things to come!
