The Ohio state FFA legislature recently inducted Kalyn Strahley to be the next treasure for the 2018-2019 school year.
Kalyn has worked hard for many years in the FFA program and recently said she would focus strictly on FFA.
Kalyn is a resident of Paulding County and attends Paulding High School. Her family has about 9 acres of land where she resides and works in animal husbandry raising all kinds of animals for agricultural purposes. Kalyn owns two horses and loves to ride them. She has two right now – one is Dixie and the other is Roadie!
She currently has two lambs and also raises broiler chickens. Right now she also raises laying hens and sells the eggs to raise money. At the same time she’s also growing mums to selling at the 4-H Fair.
Kalyn got her experience early with FFA when she joined 4-H at 5 years old. Since then she has earned many trophies and plaques in the field of agriculture at the 4-H Fair.
“Every minute in my blue jacket has made me want to be at state “ Kalyn said, this she has received encouragement from many people and it has made a huge difference for her. That is exactly what she wants to do for others and help them grow in leadership, public speaking and in agriculture. One person she gets help from right now is Sam Hatcher, and she helps him with loading hay and straw in the fall.
“Kalyn is an amazing leader in our chapter. She has a true passion for Ag and FFA,” Paulding FFA Ag Director Staci Miller commented. Miller continues, ”and she is always helping younger members to find their true passion in agriculture.”
Kalyn’s parents are Jeff and Connie Strahley. She has two siblings, Cameron and Aschliman, both of whom attend the University of Findlay.
So what does it take to become an officer of the state FFA program? First of all, Kalyn had to apply for the state office and three weeks ago at the state convention she was selected after many interviews to run against Grace Latch from Bloom-Carol High School FFA. Both ladies were given a question and then were given five minutes to prepare a speech. Then they had to give a two-minute speech in front of the convention where they were then voted to be the best member as treasurer. Even though Grace took second place in the election and now holds a vice president position on this team. There were 55 applicants all together in the state to hold the offices.
After Kalyn graduates from Paulding High School, her intentions are to major in animal sciences at either The Ohio State University or the University of Findlay.
Congratulations to Kalyn on all of her achievements and we wish her continued success!
