It has been almost a year since the monumental groundbreaking event occurred for a second medical office building at the Defiance campus of Promedica Regional Hospital (PDRH). The collaboration of the executive team, project team, leadership team and the ribbon cutting event team all had a hand in making this project become a reality for its patients. The Ribbon Cutting Event for the opening of Promedica’s Defiance Regional Hospital’s second medical office building took place on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 in the parking lot just outside the new facility. On this humid late spring afternoon, the downpour that occurred just before the event was to get started could not keep the spirits down of the faculty, administrators, supporters, and physicians who came out to celebrate this momentous occasion.

The new office building is a 2 story facility which boasts 41,000 square feet of usable space. There are five clinical suites that are already operational and occupied. On the first floor, the Orthopedic Center moved and increase its space from 7 to 10 exams rooms. Total Rehab services is also on the first floor and received several upgraded rehabilitation resources including an unground salt water therapy pool and a pediatric gym complete with rock climbing wall. From its previous location, Total Rehab has doubled its occupation size. Up to the second floor, there is an Ophthalmology office, specialty clinics and laboratories, and Harbor Behavioral Health clinic.

Prior to the facility tours given by the many office workers and department heads of Promedica, there were some speeches given by key spokespersons of this project. Doug Busch, President of Promedica Defiance Regional Hospital, gave the history of the Defiance division of Promedica as well as the development of the presently celebrated building accomplishment. He went on to recognize and exalt all of the people involved in the planning and execution of this newest addition to Promedica Defiance. Mark Klein, President and CEO of State Bank, and the President of the PDRH board of trustees, explained the importance of brand, and how Promedica has worked diligently over the years to perfect a great brand for the surrounding area providing a great experience, upholding a irreproachable reputation and exceeding expectations of the community. Chief of Staff of PDRH medical staff, Dr. R. Karen Reiter spoke next giving her perception of what this new medical building means to the physicians of PDRH, and ultimately to their patients. The convenience of having these facilities and resources all under one roof will be most beneficial to patients and physicians. She also commented about the open suite that is still available in the new building and the possible vision for its future. Mayor of Defiance, Mike McCann delivered a sincere thank you to the administration of Promedica and their community-minded cooperation to help make Defiance a cutting edge city in which to live and work.
