Ruby Owens, 80, of Oakwood, entered the gates of heaven into the arms of Jesus surrounded by her family at home on Friday July 6, 2018. We rejoice knowing that her eternity is in Heaven. She is celebrating on the streets of gold in a joyous reunion with loved one’s shouting, dancing and praising Jesus, how glorious it must have been.
Ruby was born on November 17, 1937 in Big Rock, VA, the daughter of the late Harless and Exier-Belle (Swinny) Ratliff. She married Bobby G. Owens on September 24, 1955 in a barbershop in Grundy, Virginia by William Jisser. Bobby preceded her in death on May 27, 2010.
Ruby was most recently a homemaker but worked at Campbell’s Soup for 13 years before retiring to take care of her seven children. She traveled around the United States for Jimmy Swaggart Camp Ministries. One of her favorite trips was to Israel to visit the Holy Land with her best friend Lynn Miles of Defiance. Ruby was a loyal lifetime member of Jimmy Swaggart’s ministry.
She was a true prayer warrior for many in times of need. She was always willing to share her love of Jesus with everyone she met. Ruby loved spending time with her family, watching her westerns, and soap operas. She spent much of her time with her loyal little dog, Tucker who was her great protector. Ruby touched many people’s lives in so many different capacities and she will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. One of her greatest loves was hosting all of the Owens family Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners for her family. Her Hillbilly cooking was fantastic, homemade biscuits and gravy were some of the best you could ever have. She also made the best banana pudding and secret family recipe peanut butter fudge.
Surviving are her five children, Carolyn (Don) Delarber of Continental, Gary (Misty) Owens of Oakwood, Trish (Bud) Crowl of Paulding, Jeff (Kris) Owens of Paulding, and Melissa “Missy” (Keith) Paschall of Defiance, 20 grandchildren B.J. Owens, Amanda (Josh) West, Tracy (Jacob) Owens, Josh (Brandy) Delarber, James (Tracy) Delarber, Jonathon (Kasedy) Delarber, Heath (Stacy) Starr, Angel (Mike) Starr, Tabitha Gile, Casey, Corey, and Ciarra Owens, Jason (Lindsay) Crowl, Ashley (Jason) Unger, Kameron (Megan) Owens, Kayla (Kyle) Rothenbuhler, Konnor Owens, Jared, Olivia, and Kolya Paschall, and 28 great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, son Ronnie Owens, daughter Joyce Starr, four brothers Hassel, Junior, Curtis, and Franklin Ratliff, and one sister Opal (Ratliff) Adkins.
Visitation will be held Monday July 9, 2018 from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance where funeral services will be held Tuesday July 10, 2018 at 11:00 am with Tim Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow at Sherman Cemetery.
