The West Bend News was invited by the Paulding County Sheriff’s Department to record the participation at the DARE event at the Paulding Middle School on July 17, 18, and 19th. The event demonstrates to kids that you can have fun without all of the problems that can come along with the drug use.
The events wrapped up on Thursday afternoon with more fun and games and a water fight.
Before the water games ended the day, the groups of young people had four different teams to try and see who could accumulate the most points. It ended up that team 1 came in first place with 156,000 points. They were followed closely by Team 4 who earned 153,800 in the competition. The third place team was Team 2 who earned 151,900 points and Team 3 tailed the competition, but not by much with 143,200 points.
All of the kids earned prizes by the end and they had a great time! 6 young people even won tickets to Cedar Point!
This year over 60 kids participated at DARE camp and they all had a great time. Deputy Mendez praises the kids and works hard to make sure they understand the importance of staying off Drugs!
Those who helped with the camp include Williams County D.A.R.E. Officer, Defiance County D.A.R.E. Officer, Allen County D.A.R.E. Officer and a former D.A.R.E. Officer from Putnam County. The youth staff was high school age kids from Antwerp School and Paulding School. My adult staff consisted of recent Paulding School graduates, United Way staff member and a lady from the community who just wanted to help. If you want their names just let me know and I can send them to you.
