THIS TRI-STATE AREA
By: Stan Jordan
Over the years you have read a number of columns that I have written on this area.
What I call the tri-state area is from southern Michigan south to and past of Mercer County, Ohio, the area of the St. Mary’s watershed. Then from Defiance west to I 69 in Indiana.
This is what I think about the tri-state area, I have no proof of anything just me, my mind and what I think.
The biggest share of the area is what the old timers called The Great Black Swamp, and that is what it was, a big swamp, but the outlying area of the swamp was darn good soil. I also think that the Meteoric age and background of this area is still being proven, our physical location is of the best, let me tell you what I think.
We are not plagued with forest fires or any of that type of catastrophe. So far the biggest share of this area is not plagued with floods, now we surely do have some water problems, but they could be worse. That is the same with the snow fall. As a rule, the plows can keep our roads open.
We don’t lose our electric power very often, a couple times of about 3 days. We are not sitting on aquifer and losing our highways and houses to land slides like in Florida.
We have some hot and humid days, but not all that many.
We don’t have snow storms of 24 to 100 inches. Our road crews can handle about anything. We are out of the way of disastrous flash flood, land or snow slide, tsunami or any thing as bad as that.
Why don’t you just sit and think about this and you will love this tri-state area as I do. To me, we have the best.

I THINK HE GRINNED AT ME
By: Stan Jordan
I was talking with one of my nephews the other day, and he told me this true story.
Now Seth is a good fisherman, of all types, but this was on one of his trips to Canada fishing for small mouth bass. Now that is a scrappy variety. I don’t guess I’ve ever seen one over 6 or 7 pounds. Now I know that Sylvan Lake at Rome City, Indiana is well stocked with small mouth, but myself, I always fished for the Florida type large mouth bass.
On this trip they were on an island in some lake in Canada and fishing was good but catching wasn’t. They didn’t have a hit of any type, they breezed pushed the boat over to the rocky shore area and Seth looked up about 20ft. And a bald eagle was going by his head with about a 3-4 lb small mouth bass in his claws. As he went by overhead showing me how to catch fish, I think he grinned at me.

THIS SO CALLED POLICE BRUTALITY
By: Stan Jordan
Every so often a person or a group of people will form a mob to make a scene and about police brutality and in some of those occasionaly the brutality was on the other foot.
With all the good cameras and telephones now, we get a lot of pictures of the minority side. The police don’t release their films until the trial date.
But anyhow, there was a big to-do about putting cuffs on a so called lady and the police had to ruff her up a little bit as she was in a bad mood and would not cooperate at all. But now this is my way of telling this called for action.
Everyone knows that when the police stops you and your car, he has a reason, and by law and courtesy, you are to sit and listen to the main officer and to do what he says. But there are too many times that the perpetrator has a little to drink or is too big for his britches, you know “you can’t do this to me, I’ll show you” and the tussle is on.
In almost all cases, the person won’t cooperate and put the cuffs on, that is the law. Put your hands behind your back and have the cuffs put on. Size, age and other excuses don’t work. The cuffs go on. The sooner those hard heads learn, the less trouble.
If you break and start to run, the officer assumes you are guilty of something and he doesn’t want to lose you and he is likely to shoot and this could be bad.
Let common sense prevail here!
