Anyone who has been impacted by cancer understands the desire many have to absorb as much information as possible from experts in the field. To make that pursuit of knowledge easier, the Lutheran Comprehensive Breast Center is assembling a distinguished group of physicians to discuss the latest updates in breast cancer care.
“New Directions in Breast Cancer,” an annual seminar hosted by Lutheran, will take place at The Landmark Event Facility, 6222 Ellison Road, on October 4 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. This opportunity is free and open to the public. This year’s keynote speaker is Lillian Erdahl, MD, FACS, who practices breast and general surgery at the University of Iowa. She serves as associate program director in general surgery as well as the head of the Iowa City VA Health Care System’s breast clinic.
The title of Dr. Erdahl’s presentation is “Individualizing Surgical Treatment for Breast Cancer.”

The event is sponsored by the Lutheran Cancer Center, the Fort Wayne Medical Education Program and Fort Wayne Medical Oncology and Hematology.
In March, the Lutheran Comprehensive Breast Center became the first program in the area to be granted full accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers – a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. This accreditation process challenges breast cancer centers to enhance the care they provide by addressing patient-centered needs and measuring quality against national standards.
