The Antwerp Local School Library recently received a $1,000 donation from the Jean Detmon Memorial Scholarship fund. Funds were used to purchase Playaways (portable audiobooks) and nonfiction books that will support middle and high school classroom research projects.
Dave Hitt, a former student of Jean Detmon, started the Jean Detmon Memorial Scholarship fund four years ago. Every year they use money raised from an annual golf outing, raffle tickets, and donations from friends and family to sponsor scholarships for eight seniors at Antwerp High School. This year Kendra Eaken, Detmon’s daughter, decided to donate to the school library with extra savings in the fund. Detmon, a former teacher and librarian at Antwerp High School, loved the library and was passionate about books and student learning.
