WOODBURN – Tied at 39-39 midway through the fourth quarter, visiting Angola pulled away from host Woodlan by closing the game on a 9-2 run and the Hornets pulled away for a 48-41 victory.
Joel Knox ignited the run for the Hornets with a basket and then Angola finished off the game at the foul line.
The Hornets hit seven of eight free throws down the stretch to wrap up the seven point victory and improve to 2-1 on the season.
Luke Honer scored 13 points to top the Hornets, all of which came in the game’s first three quarters. Blake Pocock added a dozen markers for Angola, including a trio of three-point field goals in the contest.
Dyer Ball completed a trio of Angola players in double figures, bucketing ten points.
6-5 freshman Joe Reidy paced the way for Woodlan with 15 points while Mitch Mendenhall added 11 markers.
Mendenhall also tipped in a layup late in the first half to keep the Warriors within 23-18 at the break.
Woodlan is now 1-4 on the season.
