Due to rain, freezing temperatures and other unforeseen circumstances, the City of New Haven will extend its leaf pick up schedule until the end of this year throughout the City of New Haven (weather permitting). An extension of the schedule includes all homes within the city.
Utility Superintendent, Dave Jones said, “Leaves fell very late this year. Additionally, inclement weather has made it more difficult for our equipment to pick up wet, frozen leaves which has put our crews behind in getting all leaves collected. However, we will continue to get leaves picked up by the end of the year, as weather permits.”
Leaves must be raked onto the park strip between the sidewalk and curb (not in the street), and away from street signs, poles, mailboxes and parked cars.
Leaves that are picked up are recycled into compost, which is available free to the public at the Utility Complex located at 2201 Summit Street.
Bagged leaves WILL NOT be accepted as this will inhibit the pick up process and the bags are not conducive to composting.
