WOODBURN – In a battle of ACAC and Allen County rivals, it was a freshman who put her team on top.
Woodlan freshman Dakotah Krohn hit a three-pointer in the with 45.8 seconds left in the contest and the Warrior defense held on from there to post a 34-32 victory over Heritage Saturday evening.
Krohn finished with seven points for the Lady Warriors, who improve to 10-3 overall and 3-2 in the ACAC.
Woodlan took a 10-6 lead at the end of one quarter and expanded that margin to 20-10 at halftime. The Lady Patriots cut the deficit in half in the third quarter, pulling to within 29-24 entering the final period.
A Bree Dossen steal and layup put the Patriots on top 30-29 with 3:43 left before a Taylor Zelt basket gave Heritage a 32-30 advantage to set up Krohn’s heroics.
Gabby Joyce had eight points to pace the Lady Warriors with Addison Bayman and Dakotah Krohn both chipping in seven markers.
Taya Kitzmiller added four for Woodlan followed by Madi Koos, Ella Smith, Abbey Gentz and Kate Mendenhall all scoring two.
Heritage was led by Taylor Zelt with 11 points while Nevaeh Feasby and Bree Dossen posted eight markers each. Feasby recorded four rebounds, two assists and two steals and Zelt picked up seven boards. Dossen hauled down nine rebounds for Heritage and had two steals.
Abby Sheehan and Katie Graham chipped in three and two points, respectively. Sheehan dished out a pair of assists as well.
