Aces Capture Fifth Straight Route 49 Title

EDGERTON – Hicksville doubled up host Edgerton 26-13 in the middle two quarters and the Aces went on to post a 44-33 win to claim its fifth consecutive Route 49 Classic tournament championship Friday night at Edgerton High School.

Antwerp claimed third place in the tournament as the Archers recorded a 55-45 victory over Edon.

The Aces led 8-6 at the end of one quarter before expanding the margin to 21-13 at the midway point of the contest. Hicksville posted a 34-19 lead entering the final quarter.

Parker Thiel scored 19 points to lead Hicksville, which improves to 6-0 on the season. Other scorers for the red and white included Dylan Early (six), Jackson Bergman (four), Landon Turnbull (four), Michael Myers (four), Zac Brickel (four) and Travian Tunis (three).

Clayton Flegal and Braydon Cape both hit double digits for Edgerton with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Colin Gary (five), Logan Showalter (four) and Gannon Ripke (two) added markers for Edgerton, which falls to 4-3.

Antwerp led at every stop in the consolation game, taking an 11-9 lead at the end of one and posting a 27-20 advantage at the midway point. The Archers widened the margin to 39-25 at the end of three periods.

Cole Seslar paced the Archers with 12 points followed by Blake Schuette (11), Jayvin Landers (nine), Keaton Altimus (eight), Ty Rebber (six), Austin Lichty (five) and Luke Brewer (four).

Edon was led by Austin Kiess with 17 points and Drew Gallehue chipped in 16. Tatum Schaffter (eight), Cassius Hulbert (two) and Daryke Bass (two) also scored for the Bombers, who are now 2-6 on the season.

In semifinal action, Edgerton defeated Antwerp 53-51 and Hicksville dominated Edon 71-26.

The Bulldogs got 19 points from Braydon Cape while Logan Showalter chipped in 14 and Clayton Flegal added ten. Colin Gary (four), Greg Roth (three) and Jaron Cape (three) completed the scoring for Edgerton.

Antwerp led 14-11 after one quarter before taking a 24-19 halftime advantage. Edgerton dominated the third quarter, though, outscoring the Archers 23-10 to post a 42-34 lead entering the final stanza.

Jayvin Landers paced the blue and white with 18 points followed by Luke Brewer with a dozen and Cole Seslar posted 11. Keaton Altimus and Blake Schuette added five and three points, respectively.

Travian Tunis, Parker Thiel and Landon Turnbull all had 15 points to lead the Aces to the victory. Zac Brickel also reached double figures for Hicksville with 11 markers. Michael Myers (five), Dylan Early (four), Josh Myers (three), Jackson Bergman (two) and Cam Straub (one) found the scoring column as well for Hicksville.

Edon was paced by Tatum Schaffter with nine points and Austin Kiess added eight markers.
