Fourth Quarter Effort Lifts Warriors Past Braves

WOODBURN – Tied at 34-34 at the end of three quarters, the Woodlan Lady Warriors took control in the final period and outscored visiting Blackhawk 19-12 to post a 53-46 win over the Braves Thursday night.

Woodlan held a slim 9-8 advantage after eight minutes of action before Blackhawk took a 20-19 lead into the halftime break.

The Lady Warriors then bucketed 15 points compared to Blackhawk’s 14 in the third quarter to knot the game at 34-34 entering the final period.

Addison Bayman topped all Warrior efforts with a double-double night as the Warrior senior scored 20 points and grabbed ten rebounds as well. Bayman also recorded five steals for Woodlan.

Dakotah Krohn chipped in nine points, three rebounds and two steals with Gabby Joyce bucketing eight points and grabbing two boards.

Taya Kitzmiller also contributed seven points, two rebounds and three steals for the Lady Warriors.

Abbey Gentz picked up four markers to go along with four boards, three assists and a pair of steals while Madi Koos and Ella Smith both had two points.

Hailee Kline scored 11 points to lead Blackhawk while Hallie Vander Dussen chipped in nine.

Other scorers for the Lady Braves included Sammie Miller (eight), Lily Helmuth (seven), Aubree Vander Dussen (six) and Abbie Boyer (five).

The Lady Warriors, who are now 12-5 on the season return to action on January 16 when they visit Fremont.

Blackhawk, which falls to 8-10 overall, will hit the court again on Thursday, January 10, when it visits Bethany Christian.
