Panthers come up just short to Mustangs

PAULDING – Kate Newland scored 21 points and Tori Newland added 15 to lead the Allen East Mustangs to a 51-48 win over Paulding in Northwest Conference girls basketball action Thursday at the Jungle.

The Lady Mustangs jumped in front 11-9 at the end of one quarter only to see Paulding rally. The maroon and white outscored Allen East 12-7 in the second stanza to post a 21-18 halftime advantage.

However, Allen East answered with a 15-point third quarter while Paulding picked up 11 as the Mustangs recorded a 33-32 lead at the end of three periods.

Lauren Criblez also reached double digits with ten points for the Mustangs, who are now 9-2 overall and 3-1 in the NWC.

Ally Richardson also had four markers and Olivia Lawrence scored one for Allen East.

Paulding was paced by Bri Townley, who totaled 16 points, with Chelsi Geisige posting nine.

Audrey Geisige added eight for the Lady Panthers followed by Janae Pease (five), Sydney McCullough (four), Leigha Egnor (four) and Sadie Estle (two).

Chelsi Geisige also dished out three assists while recording three steals and two rebounds. Pease added two assists and three boards with Estle grabbing three rebounds. Townley picked up six boards for the Lady Panthers, who fall to 3-8 in all games and 0-4 in the Northwest Conference.

Paulding returns to action on Thursday when they Panthers travel to Delphos Jefferson in NWC play before hosting Tinora in non-league play on Tuesday.
