Defiance – A 2019 Freightliner hauling two trailers of general freight was being driven by Steven Bean, age 35, of Indianapolis, Indiana and was westbound on US 24 near the Baltimore Road Exit 22 when it traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a guardrail and bridge parapet. The vehicle then traveled off the overpass and onto the CSX railroad tracks below. The driver was taken to Defiance Regional Hospital and was transferred via air ambulance to The Toledo Hospital.
Rail traffic was stopped for approximately two hours. County Road 424 (Baltimore Road) will be shut down as crews clean up debris, but will be opened between 7AM and 9AM for work traffic.
Assisting at the scene was Defiance Police Department, Defiance County Sheriff’s Office, CSX Police, Defiance ODOT, and Troopers from the Van Wert Patrol Post.
John’s Towing and Recovery is handling the clean up.
The crash remains under investigation.
