PAULDING – In a classic pitcher’s duel, it was the host Paulding Panthers who escaped victorious as the maroon and white defeated visiting Allen East 2-1 Monday night in a Northwest Conference baseball game.
The Panthers opened the game’s scoring with a single run in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead and would hold that until the fifth.
Allen East tied the game with its only run of the contest in the top of the fifth before Paulding rallied to score in the bottom of the sixth for the victory.
Westan Phlipot had a pair of singles to top the Paulding offense while Hunter Kauser, Jaret Miller and Kolson Egnor added singles for the Panthers. Kauser and Miller scored the two Paulding runs with Miller and Phlipot picking up runs batted in.
Dalton Clum, Jordan Motter and Cole Fletcher each picked up a single for Allen East. Christian Hedrick scored the lone Mustang run and Clum had the run batted in.
Phlipot also picked up the victory on the mound for the Panthers, pitching the complete game and scattering three hits and three walks while striking out a dozen Allen East hitters.
Motter suffered the loss for the Mustangs, tossing six innings and giving up five hits, two runs and two walks with six strikeouts.
