Winslow Honored at ABA Opening Day

What defines a person? Is it their job? Is it their hobbies? How about their faith? Maybe their dedication? In Antwerp most people know Bob Winslow. You may know him as the copier guy, as he has worked in the field and in all kinds of government, business and other organizations for years. In Antwerp, he has been a mainstay for years in different areas of youth sports activities.

Bob has served as the Antwerp Ball Association president for uncountable years and has watched innumerable generations pass by his house on their way to the ball park. Many might go as far to say Bob is the face of the ABA.

Over the years, Bob has umpired and refereed for OHSAA sports. He has given so much of his life to the youth that he might even be called, “Dad” by kids now grown up. Bob dedicated so much time that he now sees children and grandchildren of those he has worked with as they comeback to the field.

Recently, Winslow has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. It was a sad day for the family and community to hear these painful words. Certainly his community family also are devastated. He is receiving treatments to slow the growth of the cancer. Bob’s wife, Pam, and children have been in full support of him as he is working to recover.

On Saturday, May 11 the ABA had their opening day and this year they made Bob Winslow their honoree. The company Bob works for, Current Office Solutions, provided Team Bob t-shirts for all of the young people playing that day at the ball field. Funds from the purchases of the shirts are going to help with treatment costs.

The teams on Saturday gathered around Bob as he tossed the opening pitch to his grandson, Kayden Winslow.

Many people in the community came out to honor Bob and he was touched by all the outpouring of support for him. We wish Bob the best and pray for his healing!

Bob’s impact on this community will be remembered for many, many years to come. Even during this time of trials he will be helping as he always has!
