The Paulding County Retired Teachers Association met at the Paulding County Historical Society Museum on July 8 for their annual Hall of Fame Luncheon. To be inducted into the Paulding County Hall of Fame a retired teacher must have had 25 or more years of service to the students of Paulding County. Their names are added to a plaque that hangs in the Paulding County Historical Society Museum. This year six retired teachers were inducted. Phillip Hotmire and Kelly Synder were present at the meeting. Hotmire retired in 1999, but his name was inadvertantly missed from the list of those inducted that year. Snyder retired in 2019. Hotmire was Snyder’s eighth grade American History teacher. Others inducted, but not present, were Karen Jacobs, Mark Rhodes, Jon Short, and Jaynne Smiley.
The group celebrated their 50th anniversary which actually occurred in October 2018. Pam Young and Karen Walker planned the luncheon and door prizes around the golden anniversary theme.
The Paulding County Retired Teachers Association was initiated on October 31, 1968. The first luncheon was held on November 13, 1968. In 1971 the first officers were elected. They were President, Wanda Jenkins; Vice President, Norma Simon; Secretary, Neola Gordon Treasurer, Clara Gorrell.
Joe Fisher, PT,CLT, a graduate of Paulding High School and Director of Rehab at the Paulding County Hospital, spoke to the group about various programs in the rehab department at the hospital.
