The Clinton Street bridge, which carries state Routes 15, 18 and 66 over the Maumee River in downtown Defiance, will be replaced with a structure that will carry four lanes of traffic. The new structure will also provide better access across the bridge for pedestrians, bicyclists and those with disabilities.
The old bridge closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic on Feb. 25 for approximately nine months during total reconstruction. Vehicular traffic on all three state routes is detoured onto state Route 281 (Domersville Road) and U.S. 24.
Work on the $8.3 million project began in early 2019. While the new bridge is expected to open in fall 2019, additional work around the structure will continue through summer 2020. The Great Lakes Construction Company, Hinckley, serves as the general contractor.
