The village of Oakwood will host the annual Oakwood Homecoming in downtown Oakwood, OH over Labor Day weekend, August 31 – September 2, 2019. This year will be the village’s 100th year celebration of this yearly festival.
Saturday, August 31:
Beginning on Saturday morning with the Oakwood Fire Dept’s breakfast the weekend will be running a multitude of events through Monday afternoon. The golf and softball tournaments begin at 9:00 a.m. The Cemetery Walk will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Prairie Chapel Cemetery. Get registered for the Mud Volleyball tournament that begins at 11:00 a.m. – registration ends on August 29th. After the lunch hour, get your water gear ready for a River Poker Run at 1:00 p.m. which would begin at the Oakwood Dock and end at the Sand Bar. Don’t forget about Bingo!
The evening will culminate with the traditional Little Miss Oakwood, Miss Oakwood, Little King and Queen, and Ms. Oakwood pageants. Also be ready for the much anticipated Pie Eating Contest at the Oakleaf.
Sunday, September 1:
Sunday morning will feature a Health Walk, a Tractor Pull, and a community church service. Following the church service, is the Tug A Truck contest between the Fire station and the tracks. There will be a flag pole dedication in honor of Helen Maddock at Ft. Brown monument. Sunday afternoon is loaded with a Pedal Pull, Bingo, and a community recognition ceremony. At 2:00 p.m. the food vendors and other vendors will open in the Legion and the Kids’ Zone will be opened. The Amazing Race is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. and Corn Hole will start at 4:00 p.m. Following Corn Hole, keep those competitive juices flowing by participating in Minute To Win It. An Alumni Banquet is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. and a Jackpot Bingo will take place at 6:30 p.m.
The Grand Celebration of 100th Oakwood Homecoming will commence at 7:30 p.m. at the Ballpark with good food, good music by the Oakwood Community band and a Hot Wing Eating Contest which is sponsored by the Oakleaf. Fireworks will end the evening.
Monday, September 2:
The Grand Parade will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. Vendors will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Legion Hall. Waterball will take place in the park at 12:00 p.m. the Inflatables will be ready to use from 12:00-4:00 p.m. Bingo happens again at 12:00 p.m. also. The Big Wheel Race starts at 12:30 p.m. and the Price Is Right starts at 2:00 p.m. Try your luck one last time at Jackpot Bingo at 3:30 p.m. and the day will end for another year with the deadline of the Landmark search entries and the duck race.
