The culmination of an event-filled summer happened on Monday evening September 9, 2019 with Antwerp Chamber’s last Grab Your Neighbor & Explore Your Downtown event of 2019. For September, Genesis House had live music with Mike Bouillon on the front porch. Patrons relaxed in the patio chairs set up in the front garden.
On South Main home-based businesses were set up for participants to browse their wares as were several of the businesses. Also, in front of &Junque & Barnwood Creations, the popcorn machine was set up as well as the Antwerp School’s cast of Frozen Jr. The school was selling t-shirts as part of their fundraising efforts for the Drama department.
The 2nd Annual Dog Show took place at 6:00 p.m. Mike Schneider introduced all of the dogs. There were two categories: Large Dogs and Small Dogs. Small Dogs included: Ruby, Nala, Hobie, Howard, Leonard, Teddy, Bob, Pugsley, and Hank. Large Dogs were: Cash, Zeus, Lady, Honor, Bailey, Daisy, Atlas, Girly, and Gunner.
The judges — Caleb Miller, Lauren Barrand, and Michelle Waggoner — had their hands full of cuteness and fur. Many dog treats were handed out this night as owners and dogs paraded around the parking lot of Sarah J. Mowery DDS. After all the judging tallies were added, Gunner earned the prize of Top Dog.
Antwerp’s Top Dog for 2019 is Gunner. Gunner is owned by Emily Wentland. He is a miniature American Shepherd and is approximately 3 years old and has lived with Emily his entire life (lucky dog). Gunner was asked which shoe he preferred to chew on — the left or the right one — and he replied, “I don’t chew on shoes, I chew on boots and I like the right one.” The thing he likes most about his human is that she feeds him all sorts of good food. Gunner’s idea of a great day is sleeping all day long and his favorite place to sleep is on Emily’s bed. He prefers Netflix over the Animal Planet and his favorite food is chicken. Gunner prefers belly rubs to ear rubs, but he will take either one.
Congratulations to Gunner and his human, Emily.
Thank you to everyone that came out to celebrate the Dog Days of Summer with the Antwerp Chamber. To those that brought their pups to the dog show, we thank you for sharing your furry friend with us and we hope you had as much fun as we did.
