To celebrate Read Across America, Payne Elementary participated in Dr. Seuss related dress up days, held a Book Fair in the library, and also finished off the week by holding their 5th annual Book Exchange. Title 1 teacher, Mrs. April Krouse plans this exchange for the school every year in hopes to promote literacy and encourage students to learn to love all different kinds of books. Students were encouraged to bring in up to 2 books from home for the exchange this year. Students and teachers made donations, and we gathered close to 300 books! The classes enjoyed choosing books from their favorite author, topics, and genres. Those students who participated were entered into a drawing to receive a $25.00 gift certificate to spend at the book fair. Our winner was 5th grader Olivia Zartman!! Mrs. Krouse appreciates all the help that went into this event and looks forward to more book exchanges in the future!
