Saint Joseph Township – The Defiance Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating an injury crash that occurred at approximately 4:11 P.M. Tuesday afternoon on US Route 6 at County Road 6 in Williams County.
A 1995 Freightliner FL60 Conventional, driven by Samuel Blackburn, age 50, of Edgerton was traveling northbound on County Road 6 and failed to stop at the stop sign at US Route 6. A 2017 Peterbuilt semi-truck, driven by Mathew Myers, age 48, of Hamilton, Indiana was traveling westbound on US Route 6 and was struck by the Freightliner. The Freightliner came to rest in the roadway and the Peterbuilt ran off the right side of the roadway.
Blackburn was transported by Samaritan helicopter to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana with incapacitating injuries. Blackburn is not believed to be have wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by Bryan Fire Department, Edgerton Fire Department, Williams County EMS, Edgerton Police Department, Hutch’s Towing, First Call Towing and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol reminds motorists to always buckle up, never drive distracted or impaired and to use caution at intersections allowing ample time for vehicles which have the right of way.
