1893 Treasurer’s Ledger Book Found and Donated to Paulding County

Bryce Steiner gifts the 1893 ledger to Paulding County Treasurer, Lou Ann Wannamacher.

Recently, a book was uncovered of the Paulding County Treasurer from 1893. It was found at George Clemens’ Treasure Island Flea Market on September 19 by Bryce Steiner, Publisher of the West Bend News. A conversation came up between Barry Hook and Bryce Steiner about an old county book he had run across. Bryce had mentioned that he remembered hearing that a book was missing from Claudia Fickel’s Auditor’s Office. Barry showed the aged book to Bryce and realized, this could be the missing book from 1893. After paying for the book, Bryce left for the weekend.

Bryce took the oversized, handwritten book to the Paulding County Courthouse to see Auditor Fickel on Tuesday, September 29. When he arrived the Auditor’s staff surrounded the ledger. After inspection it was revealed to not be the the lost Auditor book, but rather a ledger from the Treasure’s Office.

Lou Ann Wannemacher, Treasurer, quickly travelled east to arrive in the Auditor’s Office. She confirmed that the book of numbers was indeed from her office. Lou Ann’s bent for old books enticed her to reunite this part of the collection of Paulding County’s history!
