This afternoon around 2:30 a train – semi-truck crash was reported near Edgerton, Indiana just inside the Ohio side of the state line. The impact took place on the State Line road as a semi-truck carrying a semi-truck was crossing the tracks and became hung-up on the ramp of the roadway surrounding the tracks. Luckily, the train did not derail, and came to rest about a half mile west of Edgerton and just a few miles east of Payne, Ohio.
The Paulding County EMA and Payne fire and EMS (and others) responded to the scene of the accident where the semi ended up underneath the front engine of the train. It was reported that no one was injured in this horrendous crash.
This intersection can be serious for trailers trying to cross the railroad from the north, as the SR 613/Dawkins Road/Railroad St. is directly parallel with the railroad and only several feet from the tracks. A truck could lose all momentum at the stop sign and not being able to slide across, creating a perilous situation.
