Paulding County Health Department administered their first doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine today, December 30, 2020, to individuals in phase 1a of the Ohio Department of Health Covid-19 vaccination program. Included in day 1 of administration were several members of Paulding EMS, and PCHD nursing staff, Amber Gochenour and Barbara VanArsdalen.
“Getting my COVID-19 vaccine is important to me because I believe it is the best way for me to love and protect not only myself, but my family, friends, co-workers, and my community during this time.” Amber Gochenour, RN, Nursing Director.
“I chose to get my COVID-19 vaccine because I want to protect myself, the community, and the ones I love”, said Barbara VanArsdalen, RN.
Phase 1a includes healthcare workers and personnel who are routinely involved in the care of COVID-19 patients; residents and staff at nursing homes, residents and staff at assisted living facilities, patients and staff at state psychiatric hospitals, people with intellectual disabilities and those with mental illness, who live in group homes or centers and staff at those locations, residents and staff at our Ohio veterans’ homes, EMS responders. Phase 1 of the vaccinations is limited and not available for the general public.
The Moderna vaccine is being used under the EUA of the CDC – Emergency Use Authorization. It is a 2-dose series given 28 days apart from Dose 1 to Dose 2. Ingredients of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine are the following: messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA), lipids (SM-102, polyethylene glycol [PEG] 2000 dimyristoyl glycerol [DMG], cholesterol, and 1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine [DSPC]), tromethamine, tromethamine hydrochloride, acetic acid, sodium acetate, and sucrose.
