On February 12 the department was contacted in reference to the caller’s carbon monoxide detectors alarm going off. The officer responded and cleared the home of people and contacted the Fire Department who went through the house and made it safe. The officer stayed with the residents to make sure they were taken care of.
On February 14 a motor vehicle accident was reported at the intersection of Main and River Streets. The officer investigated the accident, prepared a report, and cited the responsible driver.
On February 16 and 17 the Police Department received numerous calls from residents of Park Avenue Villas and North Garden Apartments to force the owners to have the drive plowed out. The people were told this was a civil matter, and to contact the property manager.
On February 16 The police were contacted to come to the Park Avenue Villas. The officer attempted to drive into the apartments’ access, he was unable to due to the snow. When he arrived the complainant was upset that another resident asked to have the driveway cleared by another person and that they needed their driveway plow and sidewalks cleared. They claimed the owner did not want anyone else to clear the drive because they would not be contracted to do this. The officer explained that was a civil matter. The officer told the person who was plowing and so he stopped and left.
On February 17 the Police were contacted in reference to a resident getting their vehicle stuck partway in the road. The officer called a Paulding County deputy who assisted him in clearing a path through the snow and pushing the vehicle into the driveway.
On February 18 a resident of the village found a MARCS portable radio laying on the ground on River St near the West Bend News. Officers determined the radio belonged to the Delaware TWP Fire Department in Defiance.
On February 20 the owner of the Erie Recycling Center reported that someone had thrown two boxes of clothes into recycling bin. The officer was able to locate the owner of the clothes and told her she must retrieve her stuff.
On February 20 officers assisted the Ohio State Patrol with a traffic stop at the Post Office parking lot. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence. The passenger was given transportation home.
On February 21 a call was received of a person who was attempting suicide. The officer responded and was able to get immediate help for the person.
On February 21 the Police Department received a report of a drunk pedestrian who had fallen in the snow and could not get up. The officer responded and found the drunk pedestrian who had injured his leg. The EMS was called who transported him to the hospital.
On February 21 a resident of the Park Avenue Villas reported that he believed someone had entered his residence and stolen money. The officers investigated and found no signs of forced entry. The investigation continues.
On February 22 the department received another call in reference to fraudulent unemployment claims. The person had not filed. This has become a widespread problem that many people are now finding out about. The police department does have packets of information that are available that will guide people through the process of working through these wrongful claims.
On February 22 a resident reported receiving a call from what they said was Mercy Health System. They were asking him his medical card information and other personal info of identification. He realized that it was a fraudulent call during the conversation and hung up.
On February 23 was asked to keep the peace on Buffalo St while child custody transfer took place.
On February 24 a phone call was received that the attorney generals office that submitted a report that a recent case had fentanyl and meth.
