This year has been different for everyone, including spellers participating in the Paulding County Spelling Bee. All the contestants had to wear masks and only immediate family members and grandparents could attend. Also, the Northeastern Indiana Regional Spelling Bee was canceled; in its place is an online qualifier test in which all of the school winners will participate.
The contestants in the Paulding Bee were the following: Braxton Peters, Antwerp; Allison Carnes, Antwerp; Micah Jones, Christian Home Educators of Paulding County; Lucy Conley, Divine Mercy School; Myrriah Manz, Oakwood Elementary; Jack Daeger, Paulding Elementary; Nicholas Hatcher, Paulding Middle; Noah Schlatter, Wayne Trace Grover Hill; Brock Knowles, Wayne Trace Payne; and Jordan Hale, Wayne Trace Junior High. The D.C. Bee will still be held, but it has been moved to Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
The Bee will be on July 8, but only the final round will be in person to avoid spreading the virus. Everyone will be required to social distance and wear masks at the Bee.
Hopefully next year the Bee will be open to the public so that all may watch the contestants if so desired.
