THE DOORKEEPER

Good news! Good news! For two millennials, mankind has been offered access to a new and changed life through God’s son. Unfortunately, many young people in this country are as ignorant of this blessing available to them (as I also was, knowing only the teachings of the public school system, and not God) because it is hidden from their sight behind a closed door.

I am so grateful to God that at the age of 23, he saw fit to open the door of Heaven and invite me into a relationship with him through his son, Jesus Christ. When a person becomes a born again Christian their old habits, lifestyle and desires drastically change. For the first 23 years of my life I only wanted to commit sin, then I met someone that hated sin. He told me that he is the way to eternal life, the door to Heaven. Through prayer for mercy and forgiveness of sin I saw the door to Heaven had been opened to me by a kind and loving God (John 10:7).

Then said Jesus unto them, again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. 8) All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers; but the sheep, did not hear them. 9) I am the door, by me, if any man enter in, he shall be saved and shall go in and out and find pasture.

Whenever we think about doors we think about having access. The world has many doors that we are familiar with and even take for granted, our homes have at least two doors by law and building code: a front door and a back door. We have doors so we can go into our homes and out of our homes, it would be very inconvenient to have to always go in and out of our homes through the window! Our doors allow us to access our home and they also keep unwanted people or animals out.  Most people also have screen doors or storm doors to allow light and breeze in, and to keep animals and insects out. Doors come in a multitude of styles. Walk doors, overhead/garage doors, sliding/patio doors, french doors, decorative doors and other styles not mentioned. If a home owner, contractor or architect can see so much importance in a physical door that will likely not last longer than one hundred years, how much should we then, as creatures of God’s marvelous creation, value God’s Son, the door to Heaven, Jesus Christ.

Jesus said of himself in John 14.6, I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. The Bible is God’s opinion and that should matter more than man’s opinion, because he made us! When we read the Bible, we should learn about God and follow his teachings from it. This is the door through which we will enter  eternity when this life is over. When a person dies, they will go to eternal paradise (Heaven) or eternal punishment (Hell).

I would like to share with you a testimony of a brother in the church I attend (Gospel Light Tabernacle) that found the master door keeper and access to Heaven a few years ago. He had been living in Nevada and his mother was in Hicksville, Ohio. He made the journey to Ohio to help get his mother into the nursing home, and as a result ended up meeting the pastor of Gospel Light Tabernacle and his family, who at the time were holding church services in that same nursing home. At that time the brother did not want anything to do with God or church. The Lord began to work in my brother’s life and eventually he moved to Hicksville, not only to live close to his mother, but soon to become a faithful helper in God’s house at Gospel Light Tabernacle.

God made such a change in his life that instead of wasting his time in the vain places of this world like he used to do, he now helps with keeping the door of God’s house. He will often greet people at the door and welcome them to church. He has been seen escorting people into church on a rainy day with his own umbrella when they don’t have one. He voluntarily cleans peoples cars off and shovels paths to the congregations vehicles on days of snowy church services. Often he joyfully brings the preacher or Bible teacher a cup of cold water. This brother does not do so many good deeds for money or a pat on the back, but helps as the door keeper of God’s house in appreciation to God for what he has done for him by giving him a new lifestyle and desire to be helpful and not selfish! God blessed his life that was falling apart a few years ago. Jesus restored his marriage to his, wife, provided him, when he was near homeless, a place to live and a job. The good God even helped him get his drivers license back!

Truly, God does care about all of us and wants to help us all if we meet the requirements. We must come to God through Jesus, (the door) with humbleness, repentance and forgiveness of sin to be saved.

We invite all who read this article to come visit Gospel Light Tabernacle in Hicksville, Ohio and see what God will do for you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.’
