A new project is unfolding in the village. Area residents and groups are banding together to bring a splash pad to Antwerp. Spear heading the project will be Maria Kobee. Maria and husband John are the son and daughter-in-law of Holly Kobee. A former Antwerp alum and teacher, Holly Kobee was a bubbly young wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and friend, that passed away too soon from cancer on her 50th birthday. In honor of everything she did for, and with the area youth, the family wants to do something that would honor her legacy. As the idea was shared others in the community wanted to help.
One of the large fundraising events to help kick this off will be the Turtle Trot 5K walk/jog/run prior to the parade the morning of the Antwerp Day in the Park. Entry fees and donations will be used to help offset the costs of this new attraction. In order to make it a true “community” project, Kobee has met and discussed collaboration with Dustin Sensabaugh representing the Antwerp Community Development Corporation (ACDC), Village Administrator Brian Davis, Economic Development Director Tim Copsey and even spoken with area State Representative Craig Riedel.
A press conference will take place at the Antwerp Riverside Park at 9am August 14 to introduce the project to the community and answer questions. For additional information you can reach out to hollykobeememorial@yahoo.com
